Dear Renogy, I have some questions about this folding suitcase.
Is there a disconnect on the panel to controller wires to accomplish this from the Voyager manual
"NEVER connect the solar panel array to the controller without a battery. Battery must be
connected first. This may cause a dangerous occurrence where the controller would
experience a high open circuit voltage at the terminals."
What size wire does the suitcase use ? 'same size'! what does it come with?
Q. Can I extend the battery leads?
A. Yes, it’s possible – please choose the same size of cable for extension. However, there longer
the extension, the greater the line loss. Bigger gauge will be required for longer runs.
Thank you.

Hey Renogy, this is not that difficult!!!!
I found the Renogy MC4 to Alligator Clips as a stand alone item, specs 14AWG
Email response: "Thank you for contacting Renogy.
No, there is no disconnect cable for the panel to the controller for the suitcase with controller. As long as you do not have prolonged exposure of the panel in the sun with no battery attached you should be fine.
The suitcase comes with 12 gauge wires for the alligator clips."
So Renogy, which is it? 12 or 14

JimBo,
Thanks for posting their response. I just got one of these kits and was baffled by that instruction when there was no easy way to disconnect the panel from the controller.

Hi scouterinvt, I believe the disconnect order is good practice especially for an mppt controller. No much of a concern for PWM.
I would still keep the panel pointed away from the sun till you connect to a battery.

Hello,
There is not a disconnect between the solar panels and the Voyager controller. The statement in the manual is more precautionary for electronics in general, especially if connecting a higher wattage system (source) to a controller (regulator) without a battery (storage). The Voyager comes equipped with electronic protections at the PV and Battery port levels, but we would still recommend to keep the panels away from the sun until connecting to the battery. This was previously mentioned in the comment above. The gauge for the alligator clips is actually 14 AWG not 12AWG. Sorry for the confusion.
All the best
-Renogy Team
