I am installing two panels on my Runaway trailer roof and want to set up a third on an extension away from the trailer. How do I wire up the two panels to run as a pair while traveling with a quick way to plug in the third panel while camping? New to solar. Thanks

You would have to run them in series and then when camped splice the 3rd into the string by connecting down at the CC. That would mean MPPT for the CC.

I'd run all in parallel, you can use the MC4 branch connectors with an additional set near the controller so you could plug in the extra panel when needed, keep the extra connection indoors/out of the weather. Get the tool that helps disconnect if ya go that route. All kind of other connectors that could be spliced into the wires from the panels to controller with a pigtail/connector of your choosing for adding the portable panel at whatever length wire you want to use. I'd avoid solar wire for the portable, it is stiff but can be used and does come with MC4 on each end. Depending on length ya might find paired wire 10g that is flexible. These 10g SAE connectors are an option, I don't trust their robustness but one solar outfit puts em on RVs and claims 'solar ready' (what a hoax). www.amazon.com/CES-Gauge-Quick-Disconnect-Harness/dp/B0057ZQJ12

Honestly, I started using the genuine Anderson Power Products SB50 plugs about 6 months ago now and I'll NEVER EVER use the MC4's again! They are awesome and you can have different colours that only plug to the same colour (I've got BLUE for my solar panel to the regulator, RED to my battery bank, and BLACK for the power out of the regulator. This way nothing can be cross connected. It works well for me and the kids can even connect and disconnect them. www.andersonpower.com/

I did exactly what your suggesting wncralph. I found www.ebay.com/itm/122288396312 on ebay good for 20 amps with AWG 12 wire hen I added a 20 amp breaker and a 40 amp breaker (for disconnection purpose) with this configuration I have 3 100 watt panels on the roof and 2 100 watt portable that I can point towards the sun if parked in a shaded area. Here is a link to the manufacturer web site for the plug www.cnlinko.com/Products/65_9.html
