I would like to carry a remote solar panel in my van with me. Guessing 1 100 watt panel. ford E250 project.
Questions: 1: how do I connect a remote panel "wire" into my 40amp commander when the controller ports are already taken up with the wires from the roof solar panels. 2: is a 100 watt remote panel the right choice. 3: how long should I make the remote panel "wires". 4: what am I forgetting to ask?
thanks

You hook the 2 panels together before they get to your CC.....
Make the wires as long as you need.... Wires that are to short won't reach....
100w panels sound good to me if that's good for you....
I can't think of anything.........

ok tattoo,, so if I have the roof panels wired to the controller permanently ,,,what connector should I use to wire the remote panel wires in to the roof mounted wires, and only when I deploy the remote panel?? So some kind of quick disconnect connector, another member mentioned anderson clips, I am not familiar with those..
I would like to wire all the "panel" wires into a quick disconnect, unless that is considered taboo..

this type may be the easiest to use other that simple wire nuts! www.amazon.com/CES-Gauge-Quick-Disconnect-Harness/dp/B0057ZQJ12The one above is made from 10g wire. ya cut it in half and use each end, confirm polarity!!! 12g landscape wire (2 wires molded together from you local big box hardware store) works, 30 or so feet for 100w, flexible!

guest, so I would need something like you shown on the amazon link, cut one end off and that end would go into the controller as a permanent install, then the end of the "roof" solar cables would need the plug end put on those cables, and I would need another connector "head" so I could tie in my remote panel when needed.
So basically I would need two separate connection points coming off the controller, one to plug my roof panels into and one when i want to run my remote panel, correct?

can you not twist two sets of wires together and insert them both in one slot of the controller?
cut the plug in 1/2 and pernanently wire it to the two wires that come from the panel, the panels would be connected and one end of plug.
When needed you plug in the panel that is portable and has a corresponding plug with the correct polarity.

guest, guess that would work, but would much rather try and find a single fitting into the controller but with two separate quick disconnect heads pre made in that configuration.
anyone have any ideas if there is a two headed plug to buy in this configuration?

guest and g---I didnt explain well enough, sorry....I have 3 panels on the roof, they are all connected together on the roof(with fittings that look like the links you sent) and only two wires come through to the interior to plug into the controller. Now I want to be able to plug a remote panel into the controller when needed but with a quick disconnect so its only plugged when I want it to be.
SO guest is correct I would have a fitting hanging loose coming off the controller that is for the sole purpose of plugging in my remote panel only when needed.
Those links you sent, one end looks like an end I have on my 12v mili amp battery chargers at home. I could see how that end works, the other end I have know idea how that would work.
Polarity needs to be the same!, I assume you mean positive to positive and negative to negative ?

yes, SAE connector (or any connectors) you need to ensure that the + pinon one goes to the + pin on the other, one will protected and one will be bare pin. Here is another option! powerwerx.com/dual-conductor-custom-cableyou could custom order two short double wires with anderson powerpole connectors on one end and BARE wire on the other. Add one to the controller and one to a panel making sure the polarity is correct, the color may not match!

that powerwerx site is pretty neat, I really like the idea of them making it up for me, but I have no idea which connectors to use on that site, I would also need connectors to put on my solar cables and the remote cable, but I have know idea if I have the correct crimpers for those fittings..,how many amps should the connectors be?
As you can tell elec. is my weak point.
thanks for the link.
