My new cabin kit came with two 100 watt panels and a Wanderer charge controller. In the instructions you say to hook up the batteries to the controller before the panels. Does this only need to be done at start up? Or is the reverse true when I decide to replace or disconnect the batteries? Do the panels need to be disconnected from the controller and then the batteries? I have seen several wiring diagrams showing mechanical disconnects between chargers, controllers, inverters, panels, batteries and son on, but no one addresses any order of disconnect.

the reverse is true, disconnect the panels first if you ever need to disconnect from the battery.
This warning is generally in most controller manuals, it is more true for mppt controllers than you pwm but still good practice.

What are you hoping to run off of you panels... Are you setting it up as 12v or 120v? That's a very small system for a cabin set up... I hope your not planing on running much off of it...

Hello a61pan,
Our cabin kits do not come with the 100W panels, but we assume you are referring to these panels being put on your cabin since you mentioned the Wanderer controller. When connecting you indeed connect the battery to the charge controller (Wanderer) first, then the solar panels to the charge controller. When you're disconnecting, you disconnect the solar panels from the controller first, then you can disconnect/replace your batteries.
Hope this helps!
