On one of the forums here I read a post suggesting that batteries should never be connected in parallel but always in series.
After reading that I attempted to connect my two Carmanah batteries in series and was met with a shower of sparks that scarred the battery terminals.
I had connected the positive first and was showered on connecting the negative. Thinking that may be my mistake I reversed, and was met with another shower.
The batteries were connected to both the charge controller and Inverter (Power TechOn PS1004 3000W) at the time.
Can any of you point out where I went wrong?
The point had been made that connecting batteries in parallel would shorten their life and in series was the only way to go.
All help appreciated.

Are your batteries 12 volt or 6 volt?

paralleling batteries keeps their voltage the same so 2 x 12v in parallel is correct for 12v. Series connecting doubles the voltage so 2 x 6v in series results in 12v battery

Here's a quick run down on my setup.
2 - 100w DOKIO solar panels connected in parallel A Renogy Rover 40a MPPT charge controller
2 Carmanah AGM Deep Cycle 100amh batteries, currently connected in parallel
1 Power TechOn PS1004 3000W inverter
What I was trying to do was connect my batteries in series when the sparks flew
The batteries were connected to the CC and the Inverter but both were off
The original post was on this site on one of the threads but I can no longer find it

So are you trying to make them 24v? Is your inverter 24v?? I looked and I only seen 12v inverters like yours.....

It sounds like you have a 12v system and you tried to convert it to 24v (series) for no reason. You're lucky all that happened was sparks. Don't try this again.
