Can my Rover 20 handle 3 100 watt panels in parallel. My possibly flawed understanding says yes as each panel (renogy compact 100w) can only output 5.72a (Imp) and that adds up to 17.16a. On my sunniest days, my 2 100 watt panels will get the controller up to around 11.5a.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

i would not worry about 300w on a 20A controller. IF, that a big IF you exceed 20A charging the Rover will clip any excess.
using Imp is not appropiate for an mppt controller, let's say on a great day your 300w makes 260w. The 260w (at some voltage like 17v x 15.3A), the 260w is transformed to battery charging voltage so @ 13v battery charging you would see 20A of charge. As battery voltage climbs you would see less current, 260w/14v = 18.6A

Thanks. I had bought the 20A controller for space reasons in the RV but I've found room for another panel on the roof if the need arises and they go on sale again. I was hoping I didn't short change myself.

I would go with a 40a so you can expand....

300W max's out the real estate I have on the roof of my van and the 20A controller is physically as large as I can go inside the RV.
