Here are a couple of web sites that I found recently where some expert information is shared about how REAL grid-tie inverters (GTI) work, and some of the NEC code issues. I didn't see any mention of the illegal plug-in stuff. QUORA: How do grid tie inverters work (first post in the thread is really easy to understand) A GRID TIE INVERTER FOR SOLAR SYSTEMSEnjoy! BTW some of the information explains how MPPT technology is integrated into a modern GTI, and where "boost" conversion is used in a typical design. It might clarify the confusion sometimes caused by using the word "boost" in battery charging discussions. One use of "boost" refers to a stage of battery charging where voltage and current are controlled in a way specified by the battery technology and manufacturer, and the other use of "boost" refers to a technology used to "step up" a DC voltage to a higher DC voltage, as part of the process of regulating PV input. This process is sometimes used in MPPT charge controllers.
