I am installing the 200 solar RV kit in my camper van. I have a renogy 200amh gel battery. Solar is just one of 3 charging methods in my design. Is it a good idea to put a breaker (40 amp) on my solar line? My thought is the battery specs say 40 amp is its max incoming charge. A breaker will protect SGA isn’t any wierd surge and can also act as a disconnect switch if I ever need it. What are your thoughts? I don't think you need a breaker at all but if you want one just to shut off the power I would go with a smaller one than 40a say a 20a.... You will never get that high surge with that small of a system... Thanks but what about a surge the other way? Not from the panels but from another source say shore power. Should the solar controller and panels be protected ? I have no idea about shore power.... Do you have fuses inline in anything?? That's what I would do....
