I am looking at installing a Renogy 200 Watt 12 Volt Flexible Solar RV Kit on the cabin top of a motor sailer. In this situation the panels will be variably shaded from the rigging above. What sort of effects is this likely to have on charge rates? Does the type of controller have any bearing?

Because the panels in that kit are connected in parallel, you won't lose all power when a panel is partially shaded. But obviously there will be some loss of power/charge rate.
How much? Impossible to say. It depends on the degree of shading, how variable it is, how much sun you get, etc.
As to the charge controller, with only two panels, there is little to no difference in the type of controller you use.

^^^^ Yes sir like he said..^^^^ Try and put them in as sunny as possible place because it will really hurt the performance of the panels.... No the type of CC doesn't make a difference as they need sun to work properly...

The bypass diodes installed inside the panels junction boxes will help with some shading as well as your parallel connections. However, as reflected in this post, shade will ultimately give you power loss.

I'm in a similar situation, and looking at a 50 watt rigid panel. If one third of the panel is shaded, will I get 1/3 the current of unshaded at the same angle?
