I finally seem to have things under control and working properly. I do have a question concerning my batteries though. I have 3 12 volt, 105 AH flooded batteries hooked in parallel. They are operating correctly. I understand that it is not recommended to combine non matching batteries, but would like a more thorough reasoning. From what I read, if you mix batteries, all of them will take the charge characteristics of the weakest one. First, is this so? Second, if I add an battery to my mix as described, what result could I expect?

I types 8 D as battery type. Like you said above if they are not alike they won't charge the same as they need to.... Some will over charge and some won't get fully charged...

Again, would this have a negative effect on the entire system, or more battery storage overall. Or would it simply reduce the ah of the 8 D battery to that of the others

Or this....
12V 8 D Battery UB1280 F2 D5779 RB128 PS1272F2 APC 400 420 Alarm Security System
Or this...
Trojan 8 D-AGM 12V 230Ah Group 8 D Deep Cycle AGM Battery
You need to be more specific.......
Just saying a 8 D tells us nothing....

I would think that anyone could assume that it is not a flashlight battery. It is a commercial 12 volt battery. It is flooded. It has 225 AH. it weights about 135 pounds. It is as much a standard on batteries as a Deep Cycle or Starting battery. The 8 D is a size, much as 2 24, 27, 29, 31, or 4 D

He was using it then and wanted to know about adding more..... So I'm not surprised at anything that people do with a solar systems anymore....
Now back to your question..... Since now that we know what battery your talking about since they are both flooded I think you will be just fine..... But with that said no one recommends putting a new battery with older ones.... But other than that I don't see a down side....
