I had a Sterling B2B in place while on the road, and when it stopped working, I got this Renogy 40A B2B charger shipped to a pick-up spot and installed it yesterday, thinking that I would just be able to swap the same connections. It seems to charge the house Lithium battery fine, but I have an issue with the D+ line. I wasn't interested in splicing into one of the cables coming right out of the alternator, so I ran the cable to an un-used positive in the fuse box. The positive would only activate with the key on, which is why I set it up that way, but I woke up to a dead starter battery, meaning that it doesn't shut off in the same way.
What are some options for connecting the D+ cable that don't involve cutting an OEM cable or having a wire free-balling on top of my engine?

Instead of an unused connection on the fuse box, perhaps connect in parallel with a non-critical, non-sensitive instrument that absolutely gets shut off when the key is off - maybe cigarette lighter?
Or maybe check other unused connections for one that is wired the way you need it.
