First timer here...
I'm having difficulty determining where I should place the ANL inline fuse holder on my popup? I've read that it should be located 1-2 feet from my battery but my battery is outside the camper on the tongue in those black plastic boxes. Also, the holder I bought from Renogy doesn't look like it could stand the weather so it seems that I would need to install it inside. I have everything else looking great on my install this is the only thing that is throwing me (well...if I have to make cables that may throw me also). Is it possible to locate the fuse nearer the controller about 4-5 feet from the battery? This is obviously my first time trying to attempt solar with baby steps but I want to learn how to do it right.
Thanks,
Steve

Thanks tattoo! So the distance doesn't matter. That's great news! Although I am concerned that if the wire heats up between the fuse and the battery there could potentially be a fire hazard. Am I paranoid or overthinking this?
Cheers!
Yes you are over thinking this.... If the wire gets hot anywhere the fuse will blow because you have a short....

good practice calls for the fuse at the batt + to be very close to the batt terminal.
nothing to get to worked up about ... likely hood of a short is minimal ... but
"It is important to note that the section of cable coming from the battery +ve terminal to the first fuse (or battery distribution box) is effectively an unprotected part of the circuit. If there is a short anywhere along this length then it is very likely to catch fire as the first fuse will not experience the excess current. For this reason the length of cable from the battery +ve to the first fuse should be as short as possible so that damage is minimised in the event of an electrical fire.."
edit: I wanted to add to this,
Remember, Jumper cables don't have fuses!!!!
Yes I guess the above could be correct, I wonder where that came from bird? Also it will also depend on the size of the fuse weather it will blow if we are being technical...
