Hi folks,
I can't seem to find info on how long the temp sensor wire is but if I want to lengthen it, is that possible or does that wreck it as far as calibration is concerned? Same thing with the BT module connecting wire. Can I shorten that?
Also, what is the preferred method of attaching the temp sensor? The battery(s) are hung up underneath my van out in the open and in the warm airstream under the vehicle. I wonder how useful the sensor will be.
I haven't purchased either one yet, but they'll be attached to a Rover 30 down the road.
TIA, Eric

You don't need to shorten a wire just roll it up... I don't know about lengthening the temp sensor wire.... But it's not a special wire or end... So I don't know.. I just taped my sensor to the side of my battery......

The BT module might be about 6" from the controller in the cabin of my RV and I'm too picky about what the wiring looks like to put up with a coil of rolled up extra wire. And the batteries might be father away from the controller than the length of the temp sensor wire so I might have to lengthen that. It's probably best if I wait for everything to show up and evaluate at that point. Thank you anyway and it's good to know about only needing to tape the sensor to the battery.

i know someone has a real answer , i just bought a renogy 20A mppt charge controller, it came with a temp sensor, i hooked it all up , seems to work great, but , the temp, reads 34 degrees celcius, goes down in the evening around 6:30 to 32 and a little more at night. well it does the same it i hook it to the charge controller or not. i even put a frozen object to it to see if the temp goes down , and no change in tenp. so i was wondering if there is a setting on the charge controller itself that allows the sensor to be used ?

Hmmm

So you have it hooked up to the right place?

So, in case anyone comes across this in the future, The answer is "YES". you can shorten the wire on the BT module. I thought at first I would just open the back, snip off the extra wire and reconnect to the board in the module but it's potted so I just cut out a section of wire and spliced it back together. Now it's just a foot long.
Also, I spliced on about 2 feet of wire to the end of the temp sensor. It seems to be working OK also, although if I changed its calibration slightly, I have no way of knowing. I do know it reads different temps through out the day, so at least I didn't kill it.
