Context, solar system for Astro van.
In the picture above. How do you determine the size of the fuses going from the charge controller to the battery? Second, a friend told me I need bus bars. Do I need bus bars? If so, where do they go. Third, I'm guessing switches go between the fuse panel and the lights/fan/etc.
Thank you, Brad

Fuses are based on wire size and/or max load. If the the above charge controller is 10 amp use a 10 amp fuse, controller to battery wire short.
Bus bar is included in the above, upper right. It is an easy place to put a fuse for each circuit that you have.
IMO inverter is an accident waiting to happen! don't get one too big, use the correct size (BIG) and length (SHORT) to power the inverter from the battery with fuse based on wire size or inverter specs. Turn the inverter OFF when not in use, they constantly consume power and will destroy your battery.

Thanks for your response! Now that I'm looking at the picture I do see the bus bar. I have a different fuse box, so I'm assuming the negative bus bar is between the battery and the fuse panel.
Thanks for the tip about the inverter. I just went out and turned off the inverter.
I do have a 10A charge controller, so I need 10A fues.

a neg bus bar is just a place to tie all the negs together instead of at the battery, a wire nut works! The neg bus is wired to the batt -
so with a fuse box, a lighting circuit wire leaves the fuse box to the light and returns to the neg bus, the neg bus is then wired to the batt -
the above lighting circuit is complete, starting at the batt + to the fuse box to the light, back to the neg bus then to the batt -
